On Being Directly Exposed to Various Facets of Life

One can learn by browsing through the pages of books and at the present time, by viewing documentaries on TV channels. The knowledge gained out of those is “secondary”, unlike when one experiences first- hand occurrences in life which then, makes him or her some sort of “authority”. Among these instances are those that involve being in the midst of a depressed area, befriending hoodlums and other shady characters, travelling to interesting and unlikely destinations, eating extraordinary foods, going through grueling experience, etc.

 

In the same manner, sensitive posts such as those in the DILG, DSW, CHR, and many others should be occupied by people who have gained first-hand experience so that they can come up with ideas and decisions, based on “experience”….as much as possible. Unfortunately, various appointments in the government posts are based on “referrals” of friends, associates, or out of gratitude. Later, these appointees, as expected, are proved to be inadequate in carrying their job, and worse, are corrupt!

 

On the other hand, some may say that a doctor need not be sick of any malady to be able to prescribe a medicine. But then, prescribed medicines are not sure balls to cure as patients are asked to return after a certain period of time to check if what have been prescribed were effective. This situation is in contrast to the shared testimony of patients themselves, who got cured by certain herbs…but which medical “authorities” prohibit.  That is why despite the testimonies of those who have been relieved by herbal medicines, for instance, that go with an advertisement, what follows is a harsh precaution from the DOH that the “medication” has not been proved as effective!….so, why allow the inclusion of the testimonies, if that is the case?…or why allow the ad to be played at all, as it will just create confusion? Relative to this was the practice in the earliest civilized nations, such as those mentioned in the Bible. The practice involved exposure of the sick to the public to attract the attention of passers -by, hoping that among them, one or several who had similar disease and got cured would stop by to give advice.

 

Today, in the Philippines, some people who have not even stepped on the ground of a depressed area have the temerity to speak about poverty and life in slums despite the limitation of their “exposure” to TV screens and news gleaned from pages of newspapers. They are the detractors of Duterte in his drive against illegal drugs. All they know are just the words “death” and “extra-judicial killings” without even going any further as to the “who” and “why”. They read and view news that the killed guys are from depressed areas or slums. They never get to the depth of the story, especially, on what the drug-hooked criminals have done and could still do if left to roam the streets peddling drugs from their police protectors and evil suppliers, to their equally impoverished neighbors.

 

These detractors will never understand the situation that resulted from the negligence of the past presidents, because they, who speak about the EJK, only go as far as the air-conditioned malls and drive around the city in their airconditioned car. The furthest that they may have gone to are the touristic destinations where they spent their expensive jaunts. They have not even tried eating in sidewalk carinderias or have taken coffee in makeshift open-air “cafeterias” along side streets of slums.

 

WHAT I CANNOT UNDERSTAND IS THAT DESPITE THE FACT THAT MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION BENEFITS FROM THE DRIVE OF DUTERTE AGAINST DRUGS, THIS MINORITY MUDDLE HIS EFFORT INSTEAD OF JUST OBSERVING FROM THE SIDELINES AND GIVE HIM A CHANCE….THEN JUDGE HIM AT THE END OF HIS TERM. UNDERSTANDABLY, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY ANYTHING, BUT THEY ARE NOT HELPING THE DEMOCRATIC EFFORT OF THE PRESIDENT FOR THE MAJORITY WHO, LIKE THEM HAS ALSO THE RIGHT TO BE PROTECTED BY THE SO-CALLED DEMOCRACY…ESPECIALLY, AGAINST THE CRIMINALS!

The grassroots level of government, in particular, the Barangay, is not free from anomalies and corruption because of “familiarity” among officials and staff due to the smallness of community. Many council members may even be blood-related and the staff , especially, the Secretary appointed by the chairman, in most probability could be related to him or a member of the family. This situation definitely breeds abuse and unprofessionalism.

 

Memoranda issued on office protocol and decorum become just “fillers” of bulletin boards where they are displayed….and never heeded. The Secretary, for instance, who is supposed to be the first to report to the office should not log in at past 9:00AM and leave before 5AM!….well, as a niece, for instance of the Chairman, she could very well brag, “what are we in power for?”

 

The Barangay level is where future officials of the country are supposed to learn the rudiments of “public administration”, especially, with the current system that requires regular preparation of reports in “black and white”. But what if the Chairman happened to have just been voted because of his popular image, despite his or her lack of even a high school diploma? That is where the academically- successful members of the Council and the Secretary are supposed to come in to fill the void of the Chairman’s academic inadequacy.

 

The Barangay Chairman should, therefore, learn how to please the Council members and appoint a Secretary whom he could trust with the preparation of documents required of him or her by the next higher level of the LGU – municipality or city. On the other hand, he or she should also learn how to “dance” with the Council members so that he will not be left out in the open. These unfortunate options breed corruption, incompetence, irresponsibility and abuse that will definitely jeopardize the whole barangay, as cover-up of misdoings would surely occur.

 

Many barangays are prevailed upon by their mayors who are also prevailed upon by their governors, and that is how wholesale corruption occurs. Unless the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary is iron-fisted and courageous, corruption in the government will never be solved….as law makers, themselves, on the upper echelon of the political system of the country have their own issues of the same kind.

 

This is the reason why Duterte keeps on saying that “in his time”, he will do his best to cut corruption…and, after his term, will he still give a damn?….that is a very serious question to tackle, unless Filipinos will cooperate, be vigilant and join hands to support him and choose another leader with the same caliber. Meanwhile, the barangay level should be closely watched…because that is where corruption takes root!

In the Philippines, it is disheartening to note that offenses are seemed tolerated or allowed to circumvent laws. Also, despite the strong indications of misdeeds, these are let pass due to the absence of laws, but no effort is being made for their formulation.

For instance, the obvious and early campaigning of those who are interested to run during the 2016 election is not considered an offense against electioneering because they have not filed their respective candidacy, yet, and what they are doing is not within the campaign period. How can the Commission on Election be so naïve not to understand what is happening, when even an ordinary Filipino knows that what these people are doing is plain and simple campaigning?

If COMELEC has to maintain its image as “guardian” of honest elections in the country, why can’t it come up with a policy or enhance its already existing ones to put a stop to the mentioned fraudulent practice which is making a fool of the Filipino people? How can COMELEC maintain obsolete rules that tolerate unbecoming practices that smack of deception?

The Filipinos also cannot understand why the COMELEC fail to come up with their judgments against erring overspending candidates immediately after every election when all that its people need to do is tabulate the expenses of candidates to check the total against what is allowed. To say that they are undermanned is foolishness, as this kind of hectic activity is anticipated, hence, budget for such is supposed to be appropriated for contracting auditors which is necessary. What is irritating is that their findings are released as the questioned officials are nearing the end of their term!…or when another election is forthcoming! Worst, COMELEC waits for an interested party to lodge a complaint before conducting an investigation, when it is holding on to the basis for election frauds! If that is the rule, why not change it?

Finally, while the COMELEC as an agency has a mandate, the big question is if the people who are administering it are capable and trustworthy!

Kung maging tapat lang si Binay sa pangangampanya ay maaari niyang barahin ang kanyang detractors ng mga tanong na:

Ako… korap?
Tamang tanong, dahil lahat naman ng mga pulitiko, kahit papaano ay may bahid nitong katiwalian, kahit hindi sinasadya daw, tulad ng mga sinasabi nilang ang pork barrel nila ay ginamit daw ng mga pekeng NGOs, na hindi naman pinaniniwalaan ng mga tao – na hindi nila alam. Kaya ang mga nag-aakusa sa kanya ay dapat magpalit na ng istratehiya. Umamin na lang sila upang hindi lalong humaba ang ilong nila sa pagsisinungaling!

Ako … may malaking mga project na pinagkitaan ng malaki?
Tama pa ring tanong, dahil ang mga pulitiko ay hindi na nagpa-project kung hindi din lang malaki tulad ng basketball court at mga highway, upang siguradong malaki ang komisyon. Kaya upang sigurado, pati mga kalsada at highway na maaayos pa ay pinapatuklap! Hindi na uso ang poso o deep well pump at waiting shed dahil barya lang kung pagkitaan ito…pero yong kabaong ay okey lang dahil madaling dikitan ng sticker na may pangalan ng mayor or governor, at kung sino pang kapalmuks na opisyal! Ang maganda ding ipamigay ay mga diaper na may mukha ng mga pulitiko lalo na sa bandang puwet! Mahal ang diaper kaya marami ang mag-aapreciate, kasi pwedeng basahan din sa lababo at toilet bowl dahil absorbent!

Ako … nangarap na magkaroon ng asyenda?
Marami na ring pulitiko ang hindi lang nagkaroon ng malawak na lupain, kundi pati mga condo, bahay, mamahaling kotse, at napakalawak at hiwa-hiwalay na logging concessions. At saka isa pa, naiinggit ba yong iba dahil wala silang asyenda na may babuyan na ay may greenhouse pa ng mga orchids? Mabuti nga ang ginawa ni Binay dahil maximized ang paggamit ng asyenda! Pero…dapat pang patunayan na kanya yon. Kaya yong naiinggit, mangurakot din ng milyones upang may pambili!…at tumigil na nga sila sa kangangalngal!

Misis ko… mahilig sa orchids?
Dapat lang ipagtanggol ni Binay ang misis niya dahil siguradong mahal niya ito, hindi tulad noong isang matandang binata na walang misis pero mahilig magparinig na may plano daw naman siyang mag-asawa…kaylan? kung hindi na siya “makwanan”? ….tumigil na nga siya sa pa-machong gimik…kaya pati mga nananahimik na models ay kinakasangkapan sa pakikipag-date kuno! Si Binay ay proud sa kanyang misis, kaya pati ang hilig nito sa pag-alaga ng orchids ay okey sa kanya. Mabait din ito kaya nga maraming gamit na binili para sa Ospital ng Makati…(ano na kaya ang nangyari sa kaso?) Isa pa, mabuti nga at orchids ang inalagaan, kaysa marijuana…eh di mas malaking problema pa ang inabot! Kaya kayong ang kaya lang alagaan ay gumamela, calachuchi, san Francisco, chichirica, five fingers, katuray at malunggay… manigas na lang sa inggit!

Ako lang ba ang matandang nagsusuot ng Boy Scout uniform?
Yan ang matapang na tanong! Dapat ring pangatawanan ni Binay ang pagsuot ng uniform na yan dahil magkatugma ang kanilang kulay – parehong brown, kulay lupa, humble na kulay ng mahirap. At hindi siya nag-iisa sa pagsuot ng uniform na yan dahil may nakita akong nagtitinda ng sigarilyo sa mga tumitigil na jeep sa bandang Harrison St. sa Pasay, na ganyan din ang suot, complete with whistle pa, at very proud siya! Ang kopyang suot ay may maliit pa na bandila ng Red China! …(sa isang interbyu, nagsabi si Binay na ipaubaya na lang sa mga Tsino ang pag-develop sa West Philippine Sea dahil may pera silang panggastos – wow!) Kaya bilib din ako sa taong cigarette vendor na itong proud sa pagsuot ng Boy Scout uniform…dahil siya ay laging handa sa paglapit sa mga driver na bumubusina upang bumili ng yosi na kadiri tulad ng isang taong may maitim na budhi!

Basta matapat lang si Binay sa pangangampanya baka at marami pang baka na manalo siya. At, kapag nasa Malakanyang na siya, siguradong marami ang mamamangha dahil mabubuhay at makikita nila ang mga inakala nilang patay nang mga dummy niya, tulad ni Limlingan at yong babaeng personal secretary niya, si ginang Baloloy. Marami rin ang magwe-wish sa kanya ng: “…good luck, good health, and more wealth!”….para pantulong sa mahihirap – yon ang sabi niya!

Sa animo ay panduduro ni Pnoy kay Binay ng isang daliri, tatlong daliri naman niya ang nagtuturo sa kanyang sarili. Hindi ko kinakampihan si Binay, ang tinutukoy ko rito ay ang masamang ugaling basta na lang mambintang sa iba, ganoong ang nambibintang ay mas guilty pa.

Sinabi ni Pnoy na hindi daw nagsasalita si Binay sa mga Cabinet meetings upang ilabas ang kanyang saloobin. Paanong ilabas ni Binay, eh, hindi na nga siya iniimbita sa karamihan ng mga meeting, at hindi man lang siguro naiisip ni Pnoy na kung gagawin yon ni Binay, lalabas itong nakikialam sa ibang Cabinet secretaries. Halimbawang nakialam si Binay sa mga maling ginagawa ng ibang secretary, at siya naman ang gantihan, dahil hindi naman perpekto ang kanyang mga pamamalakad sa mga hawak niyang responsibilidad…ano kaya ang mangyayari?…siguradong magkakaroon ng rambol sa Malakanyang!

At, si Pnoy…kaylan naman nakinig sa ibang tao? Isa lang siguro ang pinapakinggan niya – si Purisima, at kung bakit?…silang dalawa lang ang nakakaalam! Kahit “ganoon” si Binay, hindi naman siguro siya tanga at manhid upang hindi makaramdam na parang napilitan lang si Pnoy sa pagbigay ng dalawang trabaho sa kanya – ang para sa housing at para sa mga OFW.

Si Roxas namang nagta-trying hard, nakisawsaw pa, ganoong alam naman ng lahat na biktima din siya ng pambabastos ni Pnoy. Walang siyang karapatang manumbat kay Binay sa pagsabing binigyan naman daw ito ni Pnoy ng trabaho at hatid-sundo pa kung aalis si Pnoy. Talagang pinapakita ni Roxas ang kakitiran ng isip niya…paanong hindi gawin ni Pnoy ang mga iyon, ay SOP para kay Binay bilang pangalawang pangulo – kasama sa protocol. Yong sinasabi ni Roxas na part naman daw ng administrasyon si Binay kaya hindi niya dapat siraan…aba eh, bilang bahagi ng administrasyon noon, ginawa naman ni Binay ang paglilibot, ah! Namigay pa nga ng mga kapirasong papel na nagsasabing may karapatan ang taong nabigyan sa lupang inuukupa (sana ay totoo), sabay sabing balak niyang maging presidente upang dumami pa ang kanyang matutulungan!…pagpapakitang wise siya!

Hindi man lang naisip ni Roxas na kung binuro ni Pnoy si Binay bilang bise-presidente lang, ay lalong nagkandalitse-litse ang sitwasyon, at lalabas pa na wala itong utang na loob dahil malaki ang naitulong nito sa kanyang nanay noong nangangapa ito bilang presidente, kaya nga out of gratitude ay in-appoint niya itong Mayor ng Makati.

Kung hindi ipinaglaban ni Binay ang pagkaroon ng isang disenteng opisina bilang Bise-presidente, hindi ibinigay sa kanya ang Coconut Palace – malayo sa Malakanyang….kaya obvious na gusto talaga ni Pnoy na mapalayo sa kanya si Binay. Kung tutuusin, pwedeng ibigay bilang opisina ang dating tinirhan ni Cory na malapit sa Malakanyang, pero hindi ginawa. Ang isa pang pambabastos sa umpisa pa lang sa bise-Presidente ay ang pagbigay dito ng napakaliit na budget…na isang insulto, at kung hindi nakipaglaban si Binay ay baka hindi nabigyan ng nararapat na budget.

Ang lahat ng mga iyon ay inipon ni Binay sa kanyang isip, damdamin, at puso…nagtimpi pa rin siya. Ang isa pang testing na ginawa ni Binay ay paghingi ng endorsement sa pangulo…palpak! Sinundan ito ng meeting ng pangulo sa mga cabinet secretaries na dapat ay kasama si Binay, pero hindi pa rin siya sinabihan. At ang masakit, siya pa ang sinisi sa hindi pag-attend, dahil “prerogative” naman daw niya kung ayaw niyang umatend. Ganoon lang? Bakit papipiliin siya kung aatend o hindi, eh dapat siyang magbigay ng report sa pangulo, kaya nga Cabinet meeting?

Kaya, ang ginawa ng pobre, pinaputok ang bulkan na bumuga ng “maitim na usok”, animo ay galing sa kanyang puso, inunahan ang Mt. Bulusan. Nag-submit siya ng irrevocable resignation, at idinaan sa talumpati ang paliwanag na may kasamang warning sa Malakanyanga at mga bumabatikos sa kanya…and the rest is another snippet of political history sa kasaysayan ng kawawang Pilipinas!…batuhan ng sisi at sumbat!…as usual.

By the way, hindi ko pa rin inaabsuwelto si Binay sa mga paratang sa kanya na dapat ay kanyang sagutin. Gagawin ko pa rin itong uri ng blog maski sa ibang tao ginawa ni Pnoy ang ginawa niya kay Binay.

The approval of the Congress Ad Hoc Committee of the BBL draft, contains the original list of the provinces, as provided for in the Tripoli Agreement during the time of Misuari, that shall comprise the Bangsamoro and that includes Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, two Zamboangas, Davao del Sur, South Cotabato and Palawan – obvious Christian-dominated provinces….yet the name of the seemingly independent state, but masquerading as a region, Bangsamoro, is so named to denote literally that it is a “Moro land”. The big question now is: will Muslim leadership tolerate Christian teachings within its domain when it seems that the direction is establishment of an Islamic “state”? Will there be fair election to give chance to a Christian to assume the leadership of the region? Won’t it be awkward if it happens?….a Moro region under a Christian leader!

If MILF is sincere in its intention in promoting unity despite cultural and religious differences, why did it not choose a name that would stand for all the constituents, instead of the “Bangsamoro” which stands just for the Muslims?

Since very long time ago, yet, there has been a so-called “balik-Islam” movement. The advocacy is very strong now in the African continent as shown by the aggressiveness of the ISIS. There was a time when the same atmosphere was felt strongly in the affected areas, that is why some Christians were said to have opted to be converted into Islam to prepare themselves. There is nothing wrong with that. However, just in case it pushes through via the Bangsamoro region, the leaders should manifest sincerity in doing their job. The first ARMM under Misuari accomplished nothing, and the present administration of the region is also questioned as regards its accomplishment. Are the constituents of the Bangsamoro, assured of a better and sincere leadership without even a faint taint of corruption?

Ever since, I had been espousing “integration” for Mindanao in view of diversity in culture and faith, but utmost tolerance should be observed as regards the differences. Definitely, Congress will approve the draft because majority of the its members are pro-Pnoy. Our last hope then, is the Senate….where more intelligent lawmakers are found, and with the reviewing committee under Miriam Santiago.

Bilang Pilipino, ipaglalaban ko ang aking lahi. Subali’t masakit mang aminin, may ilang aspeto ng ating kultura o pag-uugali, ang pumipigil sa patuloy sanang pag-asenso natin. Dahil dito, kailangang matuto tayong tumanggap ng katotohanan upang maiwasto ang mali.

Ang isa sa mga ugaling ito ay ang madali nating paglimot ng hindi magandang nakaraan na dapat sana ay nagbibigay sa atin ng gabay sa kasalukuyan. Halimbawa ay ang nakaraang Martial Law na naging dahilan ng pagdanak ng dugo dahil sa pagsupil ni Marcos ng mga karapatan, lalo na sa pamamahayag. Napatalsik nga si Marcos, hindi naman natuldukan ang kaso ng pagkamatay ni Ninoy Aquino at ng nawalang mga estudyante. At ang sa umpisa na pagmamatigas ng mga Pilipino na huwag pabalikin ang pamilyang Marcos sa Pilipinas, kalaunan ay nagkabiglaan na lang dahil, animo sa isang iglap, lahat sila ay nakabalik na pala! Ang pakikipaglaban ng pamahalaan upang mabawi ang sinasabing ninakaw ni Marcos na yaman ng bayan, wala ring narating. Ang pagbawi ay nagsimula sa kapanahunan ni Cory Aquino, at inabot ng mga kompromiso sa ilalim ng mga pumalit na administrasyon…at ang masakit ay ang sinasabi pang nangyaring kurakutan!

Mahilig gumaya ang Pilipino. Okey lang sanang gumaya pero dapat ay may limitasyon sa abot lamang ng makakaya upang hindi malubog sa utang kung may involve na pera ang panggagaya. Okey rin ito kung ang pakay ay upang mapahusay o mapaganda kung anong meron ang taong nanggaya, at hindi dahil lamang sa inggit. May isang kalihim ng Department of Tourism noon na gumaya sa tourism slogan ng isang bansa sa Europe, at dahil sa kahihiyan nang mabisto ay nag-resign. Ang lalong napahiya ay ang Pilipinas. At, ang gobyerno naman, sa kagustuhang makapanggaya sa asenso, inihanay pa ang bansa sa Tsina at Japan na milya-milya ang layo ng narating. Inireport lang ng isang survey na may “tiger economy” ang Pilipinas, ganoong nakakaduda naman, pumalakpak na agad ang mga tenga ng mga taga-gobyerno na nag-akalang mabobola nila lahat ng mga Pilipino.

Karamihan sa mga Pilipino ay ayaw ng murang bigas, murang pagkain, murang damit, etc. Ibig sabihin, may ugali tayong mapagmataas, class, kahit na ang katotohanan ay halos gumapang na sa kahirapan ang buhay. Kaalinsabay nito, mas gusto ng mga Pilipino ang imported kaya ultimo toothpick ay imported mula sa Tsina. Umabot pa sa punto na pati basura ay ini-import na. Sumikip tuloy ang container yard sa pantalan dahil napuno ng mga container ng basura galing sa Canada, at sa loob ng maraming taon pa…na hindi naman pinansin ng Customs kung hindi pa pumutok sa media. Ni hindi nila mahabol ang mga importer. At ang mga nagmamagaling namang grupong maka-nasyonalismo kuno, sa harap ng Canadian Embassy nag-rally, sa halip na sa labas ng Bureau of Customs dahil sa kapabayaan nito. Ang kaswapangan nga naman! Lahat ay gagawin makagawa lang ng ingay upang malagay sa diyaryo at mahagip ng kamera!

Sobra sa pagiging masayahin ang mga Pilipino, kaya noong panahon ni Marcos ginamit ito ng todo. Upang hindi maramdaman at mapansin ang mga problema noon ay maraming pakulo ang pinaggagawa ng gobyerno upang mabaling sa larangan ng musika, pagandahan at show business ang atensiyon ng mga tao. Dahil nakasanayan na, ngayon, ang mga mahahalagang isyu na dapat seryosohing pag-usapan upang maramdaman ang mga kahalagahan ay hindi pinapansin dahil mas gusto pa ng mga Pilipinong manood ng mga Korean nobela sa TV, o makinig ng mga tsismis sa radyo. Ang mga usapin tungkol sa West Philippine Sea, ang mga ilegal na pagmimina ng mga dayuhan sa Pilipinas, ang isyu ng K-12, illegal logging, katiwalian ng mga Binay, gutom, kawalan ng trabaho, at iba pa ay halos wala sa kanilang kamuwangan.

Madaling magsawa ang mga Pilipino, kaya ang madalas sabihin ng mga masasamang pulitiko na binabatikos ng ilang grupo ay “magsasawa din sila”. Noong bago pa lang sumabog ang mga isyu laban sa mga Binay at iba pang mga eskandalo sa gobyerno na may kinalaman sa pork barrel at PDAF, ang mga ito ay malimit na laman ng mga diyaryo, tinatalakay sa radyo at TV, pinag-uusapan sa mga terminal ng sasakyan, kahit sa inuman at barber shop. Kalaunan, kahit na tuloy pa rin ang mga hearing tungkol sa mga kaso, iisang maliit na istasyon na lamang ng TV ang tumututok…ni isang radio station ay hindi na pumansin – puro nagsawa na. Sa madaling salita, magaling lang sa simula ang mga Pilipino – isang ningas cogon na pag-uugali.

Naipagpatuloy ng ibang bansa sa Asya ang kanilang pagka-exotic, kaya pagdating sa turismo, wala sa kalingkingan nila ang Pilipinas. Hirap ang Pilipinas sa pagmintina ng mga historic landmark at pag-ayos ng mga likas na pasyalan upang makaakit ng mga turista. Gusto natin ay magkaroon ng mga 5-star resorts at hotels sa mga lugar na ito, tulad ng nangyari sa Boracay na ngayon ay nilulumot na ang mga dalampasigan dahil sa tumagas na mga septic tank ng mga hotel at restaurants.

Totoong, may mga lugar tayong popular sa internet tulad ng Underground River ng Palawan at Vigan. Subalit dapat alalahanin na kaya sila napahanay sa listahan ng mga popular na mga destinasyon ay dahil sa botohan sa internet na ang karamihan sa gumawa ay mga Pilipino din…popularity contest kasi, kaya pinagkitaan din ng grupong may pakana dahil sa mga advertisements na nailathala nila. Ang batayan dapat ay ang aktwal na dami ng mga bumisitang turista na siyang nangyayari sa ibang bansa sa Asya tulad ng Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand at maski Burma. Ang milyong bisita na ipinagmamalaki ng Department of Tourism ng Pilipinas sa panahon ngayon, ay matagal nang nirereport ng ibang bansa sa Asya, na dumadagsa sa kanila.

Ang “pakikisama” na maganda sana ang hangarin tulad ng “bayanihan” ay inabuso nang ito ay iugnay sa “utang na loob” at ginamit sa pulitika. Kaya ang mga iniluklok halimbawa ng mga nanalong opisyal sa iba’t ibang puwesto dahil sa pakikisama at utang na loob sa mga taong tumulong sa kanila sa panahon ng eleksiyon ay nagdulot ng hindi matawarang pinsala sa pamahalaan at bansa.

Kung may mga negatibo, marami ding positibo sa ating kultura, pero ginagamit ba natin ang mga ito sa tamang paraan upang tayo ay umasenso?
