Ang Bumatikos sa Maling Ginawa ay Hindi

Pagiging Abnormal

Paulit-ulit man niyang banggitin ang “daang matuwid”

Though how Progressive a Country is, there will always be Poverty because of Corruption

Though how Progressive a Country is, there will always be

Poverty because of Corruption

By Apolinario Villalobos

Perfection should be ruled out in the reckoning of a progressive country, because there will always be poverty due to corruption somewhere in the system of governance. In other words, the glitter of progress cannot hide poverty. For ultra-progressive countries, the signs may be insignificant as they try to blend with the glamour of urbanity. But in other countries, especially, the third-world, the signs are very prevalent, so that there is always a massive effort to cover them up occasionally, literally, as it is done every time there are special occasions such as visits of foreign dignitaries. This practice is successful in the Philippines.

Practically, poverty is the shadow of progress, and literally, too, as where there are looming high-rise buildings that are pockmarks of progress, not far from them are slums or homeless citizens who huddle together under bridges and nooks. These are misguided citizens who flock to the cities after selling their homestead, that have been farmed for several generations, to deceitful land developers, at a measly price. These are the urban squatters willing to be relocated but found out that the promised “paradise” do not even have a deep well so they go back to their sidewalk “homes”. These are contractual workers who have no job securities as they earn only for five to six months, after which they leave their fate to luck while looking for another job.

How does corruption ever be involved in the sad fate of the exploited? Simply, by the government’s negligence  in providing decent relocation sites with job opportunities and basic facilities to those uprooted from their city abodes for more than so many years; by its cuddling of the spurious contractualization perpetrated by greedy employers; by its failure to guide and protect the rights of farmers who sell their rice fields to subdivision developers at measly prices that are not even enough to sustain them for six months; by its failure to provide the citizens with the basic necessities as funds are allowed to be pocketed by corrupt officials; and practically by looking the other way despite the availability of laws against vote buying.

Third- world country leaders should stop using the word “progressive”, but instead they should use “surviving” to describe their respective economy. If a country’s economy cannot sustain, much less, provide a “comfortable life” to majority of its citizens, then it is still “ailing”…hence, expect poverty to be trailing behind, just a few steps away from the pretentious allegations!

Failed Expectation Breeds Disappointment and Discouragement…but we should move on

Failed Expectation Breeds
Disappointment and Discouragement
…but we should move on
By Apolinario Villalobos

Honestly now, disappointment and discouragement can really result from failed expectations. However, this should not hold us from moving on. The failure should instead give us more impetus to go ahead, no matter what. It should serve as an inspiration and a lesson on which our next moves should be founded.

Many stories are told about great artists who suffered not only one or two but series of failures before finally, achieving fame. Inventors were even ridiculed when they presented their ideas. The same is true with many businessmen who suffered bankruptcies before finally achieving the recognition as business tycoons. These people showed that success in life is sweetest if achieved the hard way.

The most popular encouragement that we hear is, “….no pain, no glory”. Achievers who made use of such guidance should be thankful to whoever first said that. If we set our eyes towards a certain goal, we should expect trials along the way….and with those, we should also expect failures.

Now, if we do not want to get disappointed in life, we should restrain ourselves from having an ambition. We should be contented with we have at the moment. We should be prepared for a stagnant life, as well as, heartaches if we find ourselves left behind by others who struggle by all means to move up or ahead. On the other hand we deserve the heartaches because in the first place, it was our choice not to experience failures. Lastly, as a reminder, the fact is that, regrets always come at the end.

Failed Expectation should not Breed Disappointment

Failed Expectation

Should not Breed Disappointment

By Apolinario Villalobos

We should not expect so much if we do not want to get disappointment when we thought we have “failed” in our endeavour. If ever, we should always be prepared with even a bit of consolation to cushion the impact of emotional and psychological ache that may ensue. And, from there, we should pick up the pieces and move on.

We should accept the fact that we may not live up to our expectations in all the things that we do because of limitations, some of which we may not be aware of. It takes a stumble or more along the way for us to know that we have such limitations or handicap. And, such realizations should be treated as lessons to be learned. They should not put us down.

There are some people who thought that earlier along the way of their struggle, they have “failed” because they use the accomplishment of others as their gauge. We should never do that, because each one of us has a distinct capability, much different from others. Most often, too, later on, when we have succeeded in what we are doing, we think that we are “late bloomers”, which is wrong again. As we live, we strive. The corridor of life that we tread is full of challenges. If we stumble in one, it should be perceived as a lesson for improvement.

I know of a guy, who during his school days – from elementary up to college, he was perceived as just an average achiever. He got contented with a BS Commerce course that he finished with not so satisfactory grades. Later when he sought for jobs, he would pass screenings with a breeze that transferring from one job to better ones was easy for him. In so short a time, he became a senior manager in a big multi-national company. When time came for him to have an assistant with engineering skill, a supervisor from their affiliate company was seconded to him. On the day of their meeting, he found out that the guy assigned to assist him was their valedictorian in high school!
